covid-19 updates

Safety America Karate is OPEN!

Please read below for more updates and information.

Covid-19 information - june 2021

Dear Safety America Karate Parents,

As we continue to monitor the evolving virus situation, we have updated our Covid-19 policies.

Safety America Karate COVID-19 Safety Procedures:

  • First and foremost, if any of the below apply to you, please stay home:
    • If you have had a cough or fever within 14 days.
    • If you have been living with someone who is sick.
    • If you have been in contact with anyone that has had Covid-19.
  • We  RECOMMEND that you drop your child off and pick them up after class.  Another option is to remain in your car while class is in session.
    • If you are in the high-risk category (65 years of age or older or are immune compromised) we recommend that you not enter the facility for your own safety.
  • All water fountains will be closed. Students must bring their own water bottle to class.
  • For safety reasons, all students are REQUIRED to wear their full Safety America Karate uniform to class.
  • Face Masks are OPTIONAL.  You are welcome inside with or without a mask, but please respect the choices of others should they choose to wear a mask or not.
    • "MASK ONLY" CLASSES: Face Masks are REQUIRED for both staff and students during our scheduled "Mask Only" Karate classes.

Our Staff & Instructors will be:

  • Cleaning all equipment that was touched or used by students between each class with our medical grade cleaner, which we already use throughout the facility.
  • Wiping down all chairs, door handles, and frequently touched surfaces with our medical grade cleaner at regular intervals.
  • Our instructors and staff will only be allowed to come to work if feeling completely well, and their temperatures will be taken daily.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation!

Reopening letter - may 2020

Dear Safety America Karate Families:

Hi! We are very excited to announce that we will be reopening our Dojo on Monday, May 18th.  We want to take a moment to discuss what our game plan for reopening is and how we plan to keep our students and staff safe against the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

If you need to contact us or have any questions, please email us at SafetyAmericaKarate@gmail.com.  We are not available via telephone at this time.

Safety America Karate COVID-19 Safety Procedures:

In order to maintain the safety of our students, we are implementing some procedures and guidelines so that we may maintain a safe and healthy training environment at Safety America.

Parent & Student Guidelines:

  • First and foremost, if any of the below apply to you, please stay home and continue online classes:
    • If you have had a cough or fever within 14 days.
    • If you have been living with someone who is sick.
    • If you have been in contact with anyone that has had Covid-19.
  • In order to maintain 25% of occupancy, our staff will be reaching out to each family via phone this upcoming week to schedule their training day and time.
  • We STRONGLY RECOMMEND that you drop your child off and pick them up after class.  Another option is to remain in your car while class is in session.
    • If you absolutely have to be in the facility, we can only allow 1 parent/guardian per student and highly recommend that you wear a mask.
    • If you are in the high-risk category (65 years of age or older or are immune compromised) we recommend that you not enter the facility for your own safety.
    • Lounge seating will be spaced out in accordance to social distancing recommendations.
  • Upon arriving at our facility, please stay in your car.
    • A member of our staff will walk to your car and take your student’s temperature using a forehead thermometer.  If your student experiences a temperature, they will not be allowed inside the Dojo and we ask that you continue your online classes.
    • At the same time, we will ask you to complete and sign a brief waiver regarding COVID-19.
  • There will be a designated entrance door and a different designated exit door for anyone entering/leaving the facility.
  • All persons entering the Dojo will be required to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer immediately.
    • Handshaking or high-fiving will be replaced with bowing and air high fives.
    • We will have hand sanitizer available at the Dojo, however, this is not a substitute for regular hand washing.
  • Students will be spaced out on the Dojo floor in accordance to social distancing guidelines.
  • All water fountains will be closed. Students must bring their own water bottle to class.
  • We understand that each of our families has their own unique situation and that everyone may not be able to return to in-person classes right away.  In order to cater to our karate families as much as possible, we will be continuing our online classes while we offer in-person classes.  Starting June 1st, the tuition for online classes will be $100/month per family/household.

Our Staff & Instructors will be:

  • Taking students temperature upon their arrival to the Dojo, before they enter the facility.
  •  Cleaning all equipment that was touched or used by students between each class with our medical grade cleaner, which we already use throughout the facility.
  • Wiping down all chairs, door handles, and frequently touched surfaces with our medical grade cleaner at regular intervals.
  • At this point in time, class lessons will be designed to avoid physical contact (no student-to-student self-defense or sparring).
  • Our instructors and staff will only be allowed to come to work if feeling completely well, and their temperatures will be taken daily.

This is an extremely difficult time and we are doing our best during this complex and ever-changing environment.  We are thankful to be a part of such a loyal community committed to the heath and wellness of their families.  Safety America is a small family-run business that has been operating in Sugar Land for the past 25 years.  We’ve always considered those who come through our doors to be a part of our karate family.  We greatly appreciate the support from our students and parents and we look forward to seeing you when we reopen!
